Roar on the Shore™ Charity Announced
Following
on the wheels of a huge success last year, the Roar on the Shore™ bike rally
will be back and better than ever in summer 2008. From celebrities to nationally
known musical acts, the event is planned for July 17 – 20, 2008.
“Last year, we held the
first annual Roar on the Shore™ motorcycle rally and drew more than 10,000
people to the shores of Lake Erie,” said Seth Tuttle, chairman of the Roar on
the Shore™ Board of Directors. “This year, we are planning to more than double
that number and intend on putting on a rally the likes of which we have never
seen in Erie.”
But
the event is about more than just motorcycles and leather – the real reason for
the rally is to raise funds for a local charity.
In 2007, the event raised more than $52,000 for the John
Kanzius Cancer Research Fund. This year, Roar on the Shore™ proceeds will go to
the Erie Shriners Hospitals for Children.
“With so many extremely worthwhile charities in the Erie
area, it was very difficult for the Manufacturers’ Association and Erie-Western
Pennsylvania Port Authority to choose just one,” said Gerald B. Eighmy,
chairman of the Manufacturers’ Association Board of Governors. “But anyone who
knows anything about the Shriners and the amazing work they do, will agree we
made a great selection.”
Considered a world-class center of excellence, the Erie
Shriners Hospitals for Children provides specialized orthopaedic treatment and
services for children at no charge through the generosity of donations.
“We are honored that the Manufacturers’ Association and
Port Authority has selected the Erie Shriners Hospitals to be the recipient of
this year’s Roar on the Shore™ proceeds,” said Richard Brzuz, hospital
administrator. “These funds will be used to provide clinical care to the nearly
9,000 children who are treated annually at our hospital. It is exciting to be
part of this popular event.”
