Roar on the Shore Board Announces 2012 Charity

ERIE – The Roar on the Shore Board of Directors today announced that proceeds from the 2012 motorcycle rally, set for July 19, 20 & 21 in downtown Erie, will be donated to two historic projects that will benefit our local community – the Erie July Fourth Community Fireworks Fund and the Perry 200 Commemoration.

Each year on July 4, Americans celebrate their independence, and often, such celebrations have included a display of fireworks. The Erie July Fourth Community Fireworks Fund was established to create a permanent endowment that will fund an annual Fourth of July fireworks display for generations of Erie-area children to come.

Similarly, the Perry 200 Commemoration will mark another historic moment in American history – the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and the Battle of Lake Erie. The group’s primary project will be the re-introduction of Erie history into area elementary school curriculum, through a variety of special events and projects over the course of two years. Plans also include a community fireworks display in 2012 and 2013.

“Both the Erie Fireworks Fund and the Perry 200 Commemoration are deserving of the support of our community and our efforts on behalf of this year’s Roar on the Shore®,” said Roar on the Shore Chairman Frank Polanski. “We can’t think of a better a way to mark these two great moments in the history of our country and community, and we hope to be able to make a generous donation to both projects.”

Last year’s rally – one of the fastest-growing free rallies in the country – drew more than 80,000 motorcycle enthusiasts to the shores of Lake Erie. Join us for Roar on the Shore® 2012 on July 19, 20 & 21!
