RocktheRoar Facebook Contest to Determine Bands at 2012 Rally
ERIE – Roar on the Shore® has launched an online contest that will let fans determine the opening acts for the 2012 motorcycle rally – set for July 19, 20 & 21 in downtown Erie.
During the 2012 RocktheRoar contest held on the official Roar® Facebook page, the 6,000-plus fans of the Roar® page, as well as more than a dozen local bands, will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite group by “liking” the band’s photo. The top three vote getters will be slated to play prior to the headline concerts on Thursday, July 19 (Great White); Friday, July 20 (Slaughter); and Saturday, July 21 (KIX). Voting ends Tuesday, February 28.
“We think this is truly a win-win situation,” said Tammy Polanski, Roar® spokeswoman. “Not only is it a chance to let our growing online community help select the local bands that will perform at this year’s rally, but it’s also a great opportunity for these ‘home-grown’ groups to win a spot on the Roar® 2012 stage.”
The 15 participating bands, who had each expressed an interest in playing prior to the start of the contest, all have ties within a 150-mile radius of Erie, home to the sixth annual bike rally – one of the fastest-growing free motorcycle rallies in the country.
Last year’s event drew more than 80,000 motorcycle enthusiasts and, along with other fundraising events throughout the year, raised approximately $300,000 for the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
